WHAT IS A SOLA WOOD FLOWER?

All of our flowers are derived from the Aeschynomene Aspera. It’s a marsh plant that grows in the wild and is quick to reach maturity. As such, it’s a renewable resource and one of the softest-known woods. The texture is likened to Balsa wood with a soft, foamy feeling that has give and resilience when pressure is applied. To keep is easy, they’re simply called “Sola.”

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

Each flower is handmade by talented artisans. The cork-like centers of the Aeschynomene Aspera plants are stripped into reams of paper like pieces. Each petal is then hand cut, shaped, and handbound in the backs of the flower buds.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR FLOWERS FROM?

We source locally from here in the USA. We have a few trusted vendors and quality is of the utmost importance to us at Studio J Florals. When we search for suppliers, we look for peak quality in the product, durability, texture, and care taken with the order through storage, shipping and packaging to prevent damage.

WHAT TYPE OF SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

We are only limited by our collective imaginations. Something we’re proud of is the ability to transform our client’s visions into corporeal art. Something you can touch, see, experience. We are up for taking on any style of project and design concept. We specialize in Weddings & Accessories, Home Décor, Occasion Arrangements, Wearables, Funeral, Décor and Flower Wall Rentals, Corporate Installations, Redesigns (Living Recreations and Original Art Reconstructions), Build Your Own Bouquet Wood Flower Bar (BYOB Flower Bar) Experiences and pop-up workshops, as well as Event Management Services. The list of offerings is ever expanding and we’re thrilled for the opportunity to discover something new with each one of our clients!

WHAT DO YOU USE TO DYE THE FLOWERS?

The main component in the painting process is a latex acrylic-based house paint. It continually offers the most flexibility on the final outcome and maintains its pigmentation the best. We’ve been known to experiment as well and have used Mod Podge and foil leaf mixtures to add a metallic flare to finished flowers or experiment with air brushing, and hand-painting techniques.
